Reconnecting

I'm an insecure friend. This makes me appear to be an uncaring friend, when really I sometimes feel paralyzed with caring a lot but not knowing what to do to be a good one and even concern that what I've thought of isn't good enough. So often I do nothing instead. Distance - physical or emotional - leads me to fall out of touch with a lot of people, sometimes when they live in the same space as me, when that is the last thing I want. I remember even as a child being aware of my friendship faults and insecurities. The good news is that I have some friends who haven't given up on me. The good news is that I was able to reconnect with someone through the lost domain of emailing that I thought I had lost but maybe I haven't. Here is my ode (not the John Keats kind) to finding old and lost friends:
"Building Words"

They say writing letters is an art
rapidly being lost to time and movements of quickness.

And I believe the ambiguous ‘them’ when the telephone
imposes spaces of stressed urgency to fill, reminding us both
of absence and
distance
and of the loudness of silence when words can’t
satisfy the
passage
of
time –
the quiet ending in a lonely void.

But the lost art has led to
the science of a foundedness of you
and for now letter by letter suffices as we repave bridges
that had been weather worn from disuse, reconnecting
through words carefully chosen and common, with
no immediacy of tied tongues, building
one on top of the next to reconstruct
what could become something
that looks like
friendship.

Team "I Like Real Men Instead of Vampires and Werewolves"

I haven't blogged for a while. I was boring myself with my photo-posts, yet couldn't think of a mind altering conversation piece to put down in cyber memory. I still can't. I'm grateful for many things this time of year, naturally. I'm also resisting the urge to complain about people's Facebook status updates(though I'm on it myself multiple times a day) and Twilight movie obsessions (which I will most likely see this weekend) as it will prove just how very hypocritical I am. My worst fear has come to pass - a person I taught came over two nights ago in a social context to hang out with some of my roommates. My deepest wishes have not yet come to pass. Lisa said I'm not allowed to put up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving, but in an act of defiance I at least took the storage bins out of the storage room, leaving them open on the TV room floor bearing their contents. I need to leave by 4 this morning to catch a flight to Portland, but I haven't packed yet and I should be going to bed 30 minutes ago. But life is good and there are no true complaints, sufferings, or worries as of right now. I do wonder if there will come a time when the free download trial addition of hidden object games on my computer will run out, because then what will I do for countless hours of wasted time after work as I prepare to take a really long nap really late in the day that will then keep me up 'til all hours of the morning during the work week? Now THAT I don't want to think about it because it might just be too painful.

Wishing you all a pain free intro to the best of holiday seasons! Happy Thanksgiving!

A Star is Born!

A star was born this weekend. Me!...or at least if one wans't born, showed up at your door and invited herself in for cookies and milk. That was my experience this weekend when I had a walk-on part in Cedar High's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." I didn't find out what my line was until that night, nor did I know what my costume would be until I arrived at the school, but it was a blast. My favorite part of high school was being the the plays and musicals, so even though this wasn't MY production, I sure made myself right at home in the props room with my friend and coworker Kodi who walked on with me, all while doing our very best to steal the show - or at least the scene we were in!

I want regular Mikey back, not DinoMikey!

This was funny the first time he did it. But after a whole weekend of this almost nonstop, including the bites and near-bites, I want my cuddly Mikey buddy back!

Falling for Fall!

Autumn has always been my favorite season. I love getting out the cozy clothes, the changing leaves, Halloween decorations, the football, and the air smells like everything good. I just wish it lasted longer! The leaves never last long enough and Halloween is over too quickly. Before we know it, Thanksgiving will be here and the Christmas decorations will be coming out. So here are my last clingings to this wonderful season, with pictures from the Southern Utah University campus and homecoming game, before winter pries my cold bony fingers loose.
What a wonderful setting for a peaceful evening walk with Claudia and Claire!

Claudia getting a little fresh with Will!
I attended SUU for 4 1/2 years and this is the first time I've taken pictures of the campus - five years after I graduated!
Go Tori!
S-U-U! S-U-U!
So maybe we spent a little more time catching up and watching Meg's sister cheer, but SUU won on a glorious day to be outside with your best friend while stuffing your face with polish dogs and imitation nacho cheese!

Thor the Tunderbird making the rounds.

Spooky pumkin skeleton!

Happy little ghost! And Happy Halloween to all!

Claudie and Claire come a'callin'!

October was a great month for spending time with my family, not to mention celebrating bithdays. I always feel like our visits will get fewer and farther between, but so far that familial drought hasn't started. First Mark visited, and two weeks later Claudia and Claire came down to Utah. It was wonderful to have my "womb"mate come to visit this past month, bringing Clairebear with her. Thanks for the wonderful weekend!
